California School Bus Driver Renewal Practice Test

When dealing with an unruly student on the school bus, moving the student to the seat nearest the driver is an effective strategy. This option enables the driver to maintain closer supervision over the student, which can help manage their behavior. Proximity often encourages better conduct, as the student is aware that they are within the driver’s direct line of sight and can be more easily monitored.

In addition, moving the student closer increases the driver's ability to intervene immediately if necessary. It creates a situation where the driver can communicate directly and calmly with the student, fostering a more disciplined environment. This approach aligns with best practices for school bus safety and discipline, promoting a sense of authority and structure without escalating the situation.

Other choices may not address the underlying issue effectively; for example, ignoring the student might allow disruptive behavior to continue unchecked and could disturb the safety and comfort of all passengers. Threatening to call parents could lead to increased conflict or embarrassment for the student without resolving the immediate issue. Sending the student to the back of the bus could isolate them, further frustrating the situation and making it harder for the driver to manage behaviors.
